On many businesses’ New Year’s Resolution list this year: Communicate more effectively with our customers. According to Emarketer, 67% of business executives worldwide said email was a valued asset to building customer loyalty and retention.
Email campaigns that incorporate referral requests and service reminder emails are a great way to do this. The question is, how do you collect email addresses for these campaigns?
Here are a few methods for collecting emails addresses:1) Give something away for free, such as a white paper, discount coupon, or free consultation, for those who sign up to receive email correspondence. Make sure that their email address is required in order to get the free thing that you are offering.2) Use your social networks by posting an opt-in link on your Facebook fan page or Twitter feed. Tell your fans/followers exactly what they’ll be getting if they sign up for your emails: for example, special deals for referrals and discounts for new customers. This also will make them more likely to share your message with their friends, fans, and followers.
3) Get customers to sign up for an email newsletter by including an opt-in form on your website or blog. Note: This can be challenging because people are often cautious about getting too much mail unless they know that there is really something in it for them. That’s why you should consider offering special deals only available to those who subscribe to your newsletter or incorporating industry-specific tips/tricks.
4) Comment cards or surveys. This may be one of the easiest ways to collect email addresses from your customers because they are already giving you feedback about your business and, if you ever want to use those comments for publication, you need to get their email address for verification.
